In today’s music news, Chris Breezy dropped a 45-track album titled, “Heartbreak on a full Moon". If you don’t know about this album, you have probably heard the singles that are featured, “Pills and Automobiles” and “Privacy” (I thought Privacy was on “Royalty”). Let’s go back to the fact that this album has 45 tracks though. 45 tracks could honestly last through a whole house party. I haven’t looked into Breezys reasoning behind making a 45-track album because this post is not about that.
This post is about my growing frustration with Chris Brown. A frustrated nerve that has been around since 2006. A frustration that I’m sure every Chris Brown Fan is dealing with till this very day. The frustration stems from the fact that us girls who grew up fangirling over Chris Brown were robbed. Chris Brown ran up in my house and stole all of my stuff. He stole my posters, my cd’s and any inkling of hope towards a music video for his 2006 track “Poppin”!
I was trying to have my looks set people on fire Chris!
I wonder if Chris Brown regrets not making a video for his #42 on the Hot 100 billboard list song. I remember hearing “Poppin” on my friends’ CD player one morning, that’s when Chris Brown became my boo. I was already intrigued by the Tappahannock, two up-two down artist when he hit the middle school scene with “Run It”. Chris Brown came out the perfect time though. B2K was fading away, Pretty Ricky, B5, D4L and Dem Franchize Boyz were taking over the hip-hop airwaves. The years 2005-2006 were once again, a great time for music. “Poppin” eventually made the soundtrack for Breezy's Big Screen debut “Stomp the Yard”. By 2007, “Poppin” went RIAA Certified Gold (what an accomplishment for a song that didn’t have a video).
I’m not even sure if YouTube was out at the time but I know years later I was looking for the video, not knowing that he had zero plans to make one. CHRIS WHY MUST YOU DO THIS TO #TEAMBREEZY. Anyway, I’m not only venting to you all in this post but I’m also sharing my appreciation for the song “Poppin”. The song was created beyond its time. If Chris made “Poppin” now, the song would be played on radio stations for a whole year. I don’t know if it’s the beat, his vocals or the fact that this song is still relevant in my life. Even at his concerts, women go crazy over his live performance of “Poppin” so I guess that suffices.
Enough of my rant. If you feel where I’m coming from, shout out to you. As for everybody else, I suggest you play this song on your way home or with your little boo- thang on a nice, fall, afternoon. Then come back to me.
