Dear TDE, Lunch on Me?

Around this time last year, I was scrolling through my Tumblr feed checking out the latest content from the blogs I follow. One blog, in particular, happened to be uploading some pretty dope tunes that night. But what caught my attention was a song that featured SZA, at the time I had been yearning for SZA’s voice once I grew bored with her 2014 EP “Z”. The song is named “Stuck in The Mud”, with a title like that and the state I was in during that season I was like “Oh Shit, this is going to be dope”. I ran out the kitchen in my apartment, to connect the music to my speaker and started to vibe out (I find peace in having album jam sessions by myself but, the door is always for anyone who wants to join). The beat dropped and I stood there bobbing my head hard, I was instantly hooked!

My first thought was “Is this Spitta?” but no it wasn’t. I went back to my phone trying to find out who made this ill rhyme and floetic beat. Isaiah Rashad is his name, member of California based label Top Dawg Entertainment. Now, as any music head would I looked up who this Isaiah Rashad cat was, his discography, concerts, backstory, baby mamas, ALLADAT!

Quick backstory on Isaiah for those of you who aren’t familiar with his work.

Name: Isaiah Rashad McClain

Location: Chattanooga, Tennessee

Music Activity: 2009 – Present

Discography

- Albums: The Sun's Tirade (2016)

- Eps and Mixtapes: Cilvia Demo

Affiliations: TDE, Black Hippy, The House, Kendrick Lamar, SZA, Ab-Soul, Schoolboy Q, TUT (Stay Tuned)

Now for an artist that has only dropped one EP and one Studio Album, Rashad definitely has

rhymes and progressive production skills that shouldn't be overlooked ( I’ll drop his 2013 BET Cypher & 2014 XXL Freshman cypher in here). Anyway, back to the track. “Stuck in the Mud” by Isaiah Rashad ft. SZA was one of two singles he released off of his debut studio album “The Suns Tirade”, the second being “Free Lunch”. Of course, I went to my TIDAL to check out “The Sun’s Tirade”. 5 days later I was still checking out the album.

Before I discovered Isaiah Rashad, I was in a music funk, searching for music on Sound Cloud, playing old ass R&B songs from the late 90s/early 0

0’s (S/O to “Touch Me, Tease Me” by Case). So of course, coming across Rashad’s music was very refreshing.

I’m not going into detail about “The Sun’s Tirade” on this post due to the track by track analysis guide that will follow. So, for now, I will post the links to his BET Cypher and my top 3 favourite songs by him, “Wats Wrong”, “Stuck in The Mud”, and “Park”. Stay Tuned for the Isaiah Rashad Guide
